Types of Membership
There are three ways to be
a member of the Ursulines. Vowed
members make a permanent commitment to live the vows of chastity, poverty
and obedience in our supportive community of women.
Companions in Mission members join
the Ursulines as volunteers in ministry. The Ursuline Associates
are a group of lay women who are committed to work with the Ursuline
Sisters in a variety of ministries. The Associates do not take
formal vows; they are focused on prayer and service in their daily lives.
Members of the Company of Angela are interested in maintaining a prayer
relationship with each other and the Ursuline Sisters.

Vowed Members
Ursuline Sisters profess three vows.
Poverty - The vow of poverty represents more than material poverty; it is
a poverty of dependence which is counter-cultural to the typical American
lifestyle.
Sister Mary O'Leary

Chastity - For Ursuline Sisters, the vow of chastity enables us to live
out the legacy of
Saint Angela Merici. Saint Angela encouraged the
Sisters to live as the spouse of Christ.
Obedience - The vow of obedience incorporates listening and responding to
the will of God for us and those we serve.
Sister Nancy DiCola
A major part of vowed religious life is living in community with other
Sisters. The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown have several local
convents where Sisters live and pray together.
